Hello WoodBlocX!

For anybody who hasn't seen the WoodBlocX raised beds, planters, seats and everything, believe me they are brilliant! At John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby we constructed a large WoodBlocX bed and its the best bed we have. Here is a link to the project, top item: http://www.simplygardening.co.uk/whitgift.html

It was so easy to costruct, paint and we grew the 3 sisiters American Indian bes in it.

We put in woodblocx in over 200 schools nationally last year everything from sandpits to meter deep ponds!

I received this yesterday - area North Yorkshire

 

"I am emailing you to see if you could help me or give me some advice. 

 

I work in a primary school and we don't have any grass or any where to grow our own produce.  I want to set up a project to show children how to grow their own produce and also the out of school care club can use the produce in their cooking academy. 

 

We are in a deprived area and we have tried to raise funds with out success.  Please could you send me details on how much it would cost to set up this project and the equipment i would need."

Hi John just been asked to come on board a project at RAF Odiham. They have signed up to the RHS Its your neighbourhood scheme. It involves greening up the place with plants, planters etc and getting the local primary school on the base to be involved. So I am off to meet them on Monday to let them know what they can do with the school children to keep them involved utilizing all their plastic bottles, and old boots.

When I have pictures I will share them.

How about a "keyhole" garden from Africa?

 

In Africa when it rains everything that is growing in the ground just washes away. Here is a growing system that allows the Africans to grow off the floor and away for the hard rains when they come. All the compostable materials and water goes into the bin in the middle and this prevents evaporation.

 

It’s a wonderful raised bed to build in a school and great to make links with Africa and more. You can teach recycling and why water evaporates.

Thank you John for the invite...I did a Front Elementary School Garden, years ago for an Older school, but everything was torn because there was a new Build of the Building, this past year, only Mature Trees were planted...
