i agree too. we need respect like plumbers.

they say a price say £180 and no one disagrees. they dont have £3k tools.
they work, slow , and steady, keep going to van for tools etc and charge extra for trade-price parts .no-one argues. im talking about plumbers NOT gas engineers.(who charge more) !

I also agree with you Nick. Trading Standards will chase cowboy builders but it seems that cowboy 'gardeners' can still get away with very poor work and we have to pick up the pieces. An organisation that promotes skilled landscapers would certainly help get rid of these cowboys.

I also agree with Nick. Until the public are made aware of the of all the skills, knowledge and investments that are needed to operate a business professionally within the industry, we will always be under valued.

Yes Mr Coslett I agree! How are things at the nursery? I have lost my whole file on trade accounts so will need a new one.

Our landscape industry is too fragmented into too many small trade association. Its sad as we all share a common interest and suffer with poor impact and representation to politicians and government. There is a strong argument for closer or umbrella amalgamation with shared and reduced central admin costs so the money can go toward promoting the industry to public, customers and the like. It is high time the landscapers skills are valued more toward those of a plumber than the basic cleaner.

What is the single most important issue that the land-based industry should tackle?
