gr20 gtx do not have steel toe cap so would not conform to our h/s policy...i use scruffs at the moment, the biggest thing that kills boots is....lack of care/polish and the fact somebody else buys them, those who buy their own kit tend to look after much better.
I use Hiax too but only for chainsaw work... at about 145 quid I can't justify using them just for gardening, I have tired Hitec waterproof walking boots 60 quid, comfy good in the rain for a couple of hours then leak have put up with 18 months of abuse soo far but won't be too long before completey knackered, I also tried some Hogg's they are made in UK, again water proof but only really for a few hours steel toe good leather and sole & have shrugged off all the abuse I have thrown at them so far..cost about 55 quid.
From my biking interests there is another British company making boots, Altberg give them a Google ;-)
Meindl boots with steel toe-caps in are the bomb! They are super- comfortable, and offer all the protection I need for work. I have a fairly active lifestyle and wear mine all the time- though my partner refuses to let me wear them in bed!
Best work boot for value and comfort was Dr Martin (steel toe caps) - Got off Ebay about 4 years ago for a fiver. Brand new but had the Royal Mail stamped on the leather! I guess the posties deliver heavy pacels and need full PPE.
Thought I would give them a go and probably throw them away after a week or so but still going strong but I do rotate with the scruffs hurricane. However only manage to get about 13 months out of them.
Agree with Steve - if you pay for them you look after them.
www.strauss-direct.co.uk, try these guys for equipment, they are local to me,but its all mail order, top quality gear, worth a look.
if i remember,i asked for a sample pair of trousers which i paid for,but could return of post them if not satisfied and collect refund...i kept them.
