just wondering what the rest of you get upto when work slakens off or to cold to work.

This year thinking of doing logs as an extra income.

I do tree work and logs, gutter cleaning, greenhouse cleaning, fence and shed painting (in good weather), snow and ice clearing, and anything else i can find to do.

I couldn't just sit at home, i like to get out there, there's always something to do!

I get a winter income from my maintenance contracts plus a couple of domestic regulars who maintain winter visits. There is the odd one-off job but other than that I don't chase other lines of work, I catch up on life a bit.

Well said Dan.

Amen to that

If work comes along, all well and good, otherwise relax a little and have some family time

with maintenance contracts and odd jobs i usually get 2.5 to 3 days a week minimum which is fine for me

As long as it's not below freezing/snowing then the window cleaning/gutter cleaning business carries on as normal. Run up to Christmas is probably the most busy of the year.

We do like a decent Christmas break if we can but other than that unless the weather defeats us its still a 5 day week.

I sell bottled gas, red diesel and kerosene. Keeps me very busy in the winter. Do the odd maintenance here and there, fitted a few kitchens. Doing life modelling this year too, not sure how much work that will provide in the winter though.

We make fire baskets and grates in the winter, although this year the season seems to have started early.

Fenland Ironworks fire baskets

They looks Fab, phil!

Lots of commercial contract work and 12 months payments schemes = December to January holidays in nice sunny climes supping beer and having 'me time',  with my staff taking care of any ad hoc work that comes in.

fish go round  :)

I was a Care Assistant on a bank contract but as I did not do a shift within a 13 week period I cant do this anymore but for some reason I'm still on their books.

I'm going to relax when its cold, brush of the fishing gear and sit by the river and just watch the world go round.

last year was off well over a month maybe more with £0 income cos of snow in kent.... good job im young and have no kids etc... this year im off getting out of the uk worked hard all year so deserve a nice break....

Last December & January I delivered parcels for a courier company(via an agency) saved me using money I had saved, this year I have some work booked in however might still do a few days as I enjoyed doing something diffrent . It also makes you appreciate working for your self & being outdoors when its not bucketing down
