Oh no! Didn't know Ofer was there would have found him if I did.

The show was much smaller than the last time I went, lots of the same old stuff (read tat) but did see one or two interesting new things, well two actually.

I heard a buyer from a garden center on the bus saying that he felt sorry for people who had arranged to visit for the three days as they would be twiddling their fingers for two and a half of them!

Sign of the times?

Had I known Ofer was there I would have made a beeline for him, sorry Ofer, Just had to get away .

I did Bring home with me the info on the black Stargazer table, thats it. 99% down on last years new data brought back.

Got off the train at 12.20, caught the 16.11 home.

Feel sorry for the 17 exhibtors in the landscape hall.

Have they not read the Paving Expert 2008 review.

"As hinted at a mere 12,000 words back, this was not the happiest Glee in living memory. Almost every exhibitor had some gripe, mostly concerning poor visitor numbers, excessive pricing, preferential treatment to some unnamed exhibitors that had threatened to withdraw, and general lack of promotion for the landscaping sector. "

Thanks for the heads up, I was thinking about attending Events UK and then popping into Glee. But I think I'll get on with the mountain of paper work, which needs culling instead.

I have always liked visiting Glee, getting to see how old friends are getting on etc. So it was a bit of a shock to find the show reduced & on the last day very quiet. Some exhibitors were quite pleased with whom they had seen -it was easier to get to them in a smaller show! There was a feeling that the trinket(TAT) side of the business was very over represented.

Talking to some press acquaintances there, confirmed what many observers are picking up on- the migration of exhibitors & visitors to far more focused Shows/events.
In no sector was this more pronounced than in landscaping. The biggest exhibits were the ones focused on the DIY end of the business, bagged aggregates etc for the Garden Centre trade-the core business of GLEE. Though a remnant of other hard landscape products were represented, the inevitable drift to focused shows seemed irresistible- roll on the HLS!.
I certainly don’t want to criticise Glee; its own refocusing on what it is about, should strengthen it from the huge analogous mass it had become.

I guess I should have put my stand details in Lj.

It could be great and I was looking forward to see some of you - I actually met two and it great.

For me the show was good- I decided on the last minute to take it as I got a good price and the manufacturer paid half of that.

True everybody said that it was much smaller (first time for me) - As I had not any marketing -I had to grab people to my stand sometimes -

I got lots of contacts with mail orders firms all around the world, few distributors and garden centres that showed intrest and about 3-4 garden designers.

I met few that came to copy ideas- in total seems good.

heard that planning a new show at june 2010 instead I think with the hta and so but will see.

next time we should all speak before and meet.
there was one even embracing part that we were 6 exhibitors should have a speech about new products but there were no buyers at all so the organizers had to ask on the speaker if buyer will come just to show support.

I'm glad you had a good show Ofer.

A June show seems a bit worrying though as landscapers should be too busy to go then.

I'm glad you said that PG, those were exactly my thoughts when we decided the timing for HLS however as per usual landscaping is tagged on at the end in the show description of Garden Expo and all the blurb indicates that it is actually a horticultural show hence the timing. The word in the events trade is that this show has been launched as a GLEE killer, bit of a battle between two big companies, EMAP and CLARION.

Hi, I am the organiser of the new event that you have mentioned and I'd like to try and get as much feedback as possible about this event so that we can shape into something that truly works for you all. Garden Expo is a focused garden event that has been designed to cut out any non-core products that waste visitors time and dilute the profile of the event. Landscaping is a core part of the event along with Garden Care and Outdoor living. The National Plants show will run alongside and will showcase horticulture but the rest of the event - and might I add the heart of the event - is landscaping and garden care. Please don't think that is purely focused on horticulture because that is not the case. I am really hoping that we can build this into an event that works for the landscapers and this includes a series of initiatives that I hope you will find quite refreshing. I am open to listen to your comments about what you do - or don't want from an industry event and I would welcome direct feedback to sporter@myeventconsulting.com.
