I am looking for a light weight but powerful back pack blower for a member of staff with a very slight build. I currently use a Stihl BR500 (low noise, powerful enough) and an older Stihl BR480.

The 480 is the preferred blower in terms of weight and my member of staff prefers this to the 500 but it is no longer made. The performance between the two blowers is virtually identical.

Ideally I would be looking at a similar perfomance (800m3 per hour), vibrations under 2m/s and lighter than 10kg! It also has to be reliable.

Any suggestions?

STIHL BR600 CANT GO WRONG WILL LAST FOREEEEEEEVER
Have a look at the kawasaki backpack blowers. The one I use is more compact than the stihl, and I've been very pleased with it for a couple of years now. Saying that, some of kawasaki's recent machines (strimmers) have had vibration problems but its worth trying them. Kawasaki engines very reliable though.
br600 is a bit big for some v.small domestic gardens , i have still got a sh86ce i use for that ,
We've been using a Stihl SH55 for 7 years - never any probs but could do with more power so been looking into it and for handheld, the BG86 is the best (stihl) to get for low vibes.

but for this rip your arm off backpack BR600 I've read that Stihl are bringing out a special accessory cowhorn handle - anyone know anything about it yet?
Hi Stihl have releised it. ITS ORDER NO IS 4282 790 1700. It RRPs for £71.30 and is for all of there blowers. I have just looked through my new catalouge. In my opinion it would be a waste of space in the van and would make it orcward for geting into gardens etc.

yes , i saw the cow handle bars.
it was the new item at the show @windsor racecourse. it would be good if you do hours every other day but i agree a pain in the back of truck (as it is already / like a large snake).

i also had a mow with a VIKING mower and to be surprised it seemed very good /fast/picked up well and very light. !
