When is a franchise not a franchise!

Well i have spent many weeks setting it all up lining up staff and all the system requirements needed to run it all. Its not a franchise but a portal for local gardeners to get work. Its honest for both the customer and the gardener as the prices are pre set via our unique system. It covers all the aspects needed to offer a fair price to both.

Now i know your thinking now the gardener is going to have to pay a percentage of the job to us. Well yes we want paid (who works for free!) but we are looking to create a fair platform and work on low profit high turn over :) That's why we supply jobs booked and waiting for you. And only charge £1 PER job we book for you. Its a WIN WIN for the gardener as no outlay until you get work.

  • Can you just tell me this on your site it says prices start from £5 that mean you would want me to do it for £4 after ive paid you ? Also how do you price the jobs if you don't actually see them ?

  • I'd be interested to see how you can retain quality control and consistency on this business model; different gardeners, different standards, different equipment and different levels of skill and experience. What do you have in place in respect of standardising quality to be an 'approved' gardener? How is it assessed, maintained and trained? That's a lot of legwork to manage. Also what have you put in place to prevent the local gardener and the client missing you out in the longer term? Do you have your gardeners on a contract or is it per job? If contracted, then its a franchise, if not a lot of customers will perhaps see a saving and miss out the middle man.

  • Interesting. You need a gardener in Amersham according to the website, and I'm near there.

Amersham is a VERY tricky area. Some has steep slopes, in fact hover mower only. Some is low-lying flood-plain, and incredibly difficult in the current conditions as it's under water. Many properties are older-style terraces, so difficult access, others are new-builds with lawns on a base of builder's rubble. We have houses from £300K to £3-million-plus, and lawns from 20 m2 to 20 acres. That's ONE postcode, out of how many?

Unless you are based in Amersham,I don't understand how you are going to guess prices, and keep either customer or gardener happy? You just can't price lawn cutting per m2 on a nationwide basis, and expect local professionals to work to your averages.

  • Am I right in thinking you are starting a gardening business without actually getting your hands dirty? I also share the concerns of those above in that every garden is different, so how will you get the pricing right? How do you know that the staff you have lined up are competent, are they vetted, reliable and honest? Good luck if it works, but virtually every decent gardener I know gets plenty of work without resorting to a middleman.

  • 20% off for regular bookings, price match guarantee, beat any quote by a pound? I think I might end up working for not a lot of pennies!

  • I cant see this working - Nonones going to want to give up control of the business to an outside source, let alone one that states madness such as "we wont be beaten on price" I mean, come on! So you want a cut of some cheapskate who wants their garden doing for £10? After that whats left for the Business doing the job... nothing so few will opt - it will attract penny pinching customers who will alwyas want the cheapest. Advertise quality, not cheapness!
