what weedkillers do you find best all rounders ??

hi everyone just wondering what weedkillers you all use ? at the moment we are using gallup, its about £50 for a gallon, and you mix 60ml with 5-6 litres of water, does us the whole season, great stuff took me ages to find a site that supplys it, tryed weedol and all that but isnt really affective, weeds usually die off within a week with gallup :) no license needed and animal and child friendly

Corey if your using it for financial gain and not on your property and it's a commercial herbicide, which Gallup is, you need a PA1/PA6 licence

No license needed? Are you really sure ?
  • I was sure the mix ratio for gallup was 250ml per 10l water.

You are paying far too much for glyphosate too. Gallup is just glyphosate. I buy 20 litres for £75. Use about 40l per season.

You need PA1 and PA6 to use this in your business.

  • i dont know when i read up about it when i first started using it it says you dont need a license, ive only just started up properly last year so still getting to terms with everything if so i will have to find out where i can get a sprayers license, how long do they last once you have them do you have to renew them or not ? thanks for telling me that

Prolliance glypho from Stewarts Turf , 10 ltr @ £45.00, and 250ml to 12ltr spray tank does the job just dandy

Last forever I believe, PA1 is a theory day with assessment on the day, PA6 is practical and a bit of theory and two days, and another day for the test. You got to pass PA1 before you can do PA6 and there's usually a week or so between the two training sessions.

And it will cost you around £400 -£500 to do

  • so is it every weedkiller you use you need a license what about just your general weedol and that from bnq, if your using it for business in customers gardens and commercial then you need license ??

You can't use weedol on a commercial basis, it's statutory conditions of use state it's for use as a 'home' product ( ie you would be using it 'off label')

In essence, yes any commercial product that has restrictions of use requires a licenses.

This topic has been subject of much 'discussion' previously - worth doing a search for further info.

Sodium.chlorate is not approved for commercial use.

The commercial use was removed some years ago ( allied with the fact it makes good bombs) helped its removal.

Separately, Flame or use of heat or naked flame requires a suitable endorsement on your liability insurance - try it and see how much they charge you !

So that leaves: boiling water, hoeing or mulch or natural methods as only solutions if no license;-)
