I have just cut down 70 trees all various sizes, which has created a massive amount of waste.

I am hiring a shredder/chipper to reduce to mulch and wondered what is the best machine to hire. All suggestions are welcome.

6 inch roller feed will do the job. Any wood of larger diameter you can keep for logs, or stack for habitat.
If youve got 70 trees your going to need a minimum 6 inch capacity road towable. You can get one for around £100 per day.
timberwolf ?

Hi Green Landscapes,

ahs ltd have a chippertruck to hire, which comes with driver too. It's a Jenz HEM 581r mobile chipper. The key benifits are:

  • High performance
  • Greater on-site mobility
  • easy and rapid transfer between sites
  • 480hp engine for both the truck and the chipper
  • Steerable rear axle which gives the truck a very small turning circle (16.6m), giving maneuverability in the smallest spaces and allowing the truck to work alonghside a collection vehicle
  • 7.5m crane and grab
  • Feed-in for brash is 1.2m. Logs of up to 42cm for hardwood and 56cm for softwood can be accommodated
  • Built in cracker for larger logs
  • Chipping potential of 120m cubed, or 40 tonnes per hour
  • Available for hire on a daily rate with driver

if you are interesetd please contact Khalid Hareshe on 01797 252 728

You wont go far wrong with a timber wolf chipper. We always hire the TW / 150 DH Which is a Road Tow 35 hp Diesel. Never had any problems and has always chipped any timber or brash we have thrown at it.  6 inch feed twin rollers and will process up to 4 tons an hour fast. Fills our truck in no time.

We use www.orangeplant.co.uk and we have always found there service and rates to be good and I think they will deliver pretty much anywhere or pick up from one of there depots.

Hope this helps.

Thanks All, I forgot to say there is an access issue its all in a field that is a very steep gradient and I need a machine that is fairly light to move around (cant tow around etc) must be able to move with two people.

Branch wise 6" circumference the rest will be logged. Thanks.....................

Anything light enough to move in a muddy field will take you years to chip much material.

If your time is worth much it'd be worth getting as big a tracked chipper(drive it across the field) as you can.

What are you doing with the chip?

With a 6" feed in you'll have to do a fair bit of cutting up around branch unions.  With a 9" less cutting needed, 12" even less.

If you can get one a big chipper will get you done as quick as you can throw stuff at it.

Tracked TW190 Turbo

Simples.

There is also the Tracked Chipper that has the extendable tracks so the chipper can be leveled for work on hill sides etc
Thanks Folks advice taken,really helpful.

A side note: make sure you are covered on your insurance for this, especially for 'hired in plant' you are picking up and trailer-ing to site - or pay a surcharge to hirer to take theirs out:

Also be aware, that for Public liability purposes, some insurers are insisting on NPTC WoodChipper tickets to perform this work (although not a legal requirement, it can be an insurance requirement in case of subsequent claims).

Just an FYI
