We all know in the fashion and music industries revivals are happening all the time, keep that suit or dress long enough and it come back in fashion, ( we hope ! ).
Bring back the mini skirt - Sorry; mind wandering.
What "garden fashion" do you want revived whether that be a plant / planting style, paving or landscaping style ?
I'm wondering whether to do a modern take on crazy paving this year !

Gary, have you hacked into my email ?
Yesterday I got a 'request' fro help from my (youngish) cousin wanting a crazy paved patio - they are a bit retro in their taste. Haven't yet responded, but perhaps it is comming back.
Now, where's the local council/highways yard. mmmhhh nice grey, pavement slabs.....

Gaynor, my business is hard landscaping lead but I agree with you wholeheartedly about the wish to reverse the "low maintenance" trend.
They just don't know what they're missing out on do they ?
Gaynor Witchard said:Gary many of the designs I've done this year have requested the 'man lawn' - so you're not out of fashion and I have just designed a 'crazy' path in a Japanese style garden which will be laid beginning of next week if this blasted frost goes away!!! (It's north facing, cold and damp and cement is taking an age to go off).
What would I like to see come back into fashion? People taking real interest in plants and their gardens rather than continual requests for low or no maintenance so they can sit there and do nothing.

I have a lawn that I wish to turn into a old style "bowling green", or do people still take that much pride in their lawns ??
The front lawn used to be the pride and joy of some blokes, I'm out of touch, is that still the case ?

Topiary, umm.
Moving out of Surrey last year was a refief, in more ways than one!
No more Travellers coming into your Nursery asking "Have you got any Box Balls mate?"
For that very reason, we did not stock Topiary, but we know of those that did, and sold it for cash to the visiting Travellers over the last 10 years in Surrey.
With the plants that they bought, they would visit the more upmarket areas within Surrey and London with the banter "We've got these left over from a Landscaping job, do you want any, for cash?" I know from personal experience, they sold shed loads, returning every other day for van loads of Buxus.
So for us, Topiary is very much "local authority" and should remain so.

That's the thing, other industries have blasts from the past and consider them cool or retro. In our industry the mention of past times brings up second rate images.
What about formal gardens, topiary, mosaics ?
Come on people, think of the positives !!
I bet the plant lovers could think of some old specimens they'd like to see revived.

How about heather and dwarf conifer beds? Or those crazy perforated concrete screen walls!
