I've encountered mares tail before and it's a nightmare to get rid of. You can try digging it out but i doubt you'll ever get all of it, I’ve tried round up time and time again but it doesn't work. However I have been told since by more than one person that if you over fertilize, lots and lots and lots, that may kill it off. I don't know why and can't even confirm it works but that’s what I’ve been told.
Let me know if you have any success
Mares tail is found next to ponds areas were water is, horses tail is found in flower beds under hedges & general garden areas.
It is one of the oldest known weeds & does not go away easily.
To assist removal trample on it before spraying, also mix a bit of fairy washing up liquid in with the weed killer it helps to penetrate the waxy surface on the weed.
