Hi yet another website question!!!!
Lol
Had my new site over a month now. www.sonicgroundsmaintenance.co.uk
My question is, I have no way of knowing how well my site is performing.
Two questions.
How do I find out how many people are visiting the site?
How do I know what search terms are working and where am I ranked on google?

Any information would be great!
Thanks

Hi Steve,
Have you got any form of web analytics installed . Analytics packages can help you asnwer this question and they are free too. At Marshalls we use Google Analytics which can be accessed here:
www.google.com/analytics
This tells you all sorts of useful stuff e,g, number of unique visitors, where they came from in UK, kewyords they typed top find the site amd what pages they visited to name just a couple of things.

If you haven't got analytics I would get this done. Is easy to do and will enable you to get the information you need.

Cheers,
Gareth

As for findnig out where you rank on google I would reocmmend installing SEO for firefox which has a tool which tells you what your websites ranking is for different keywords...

Hi Steve

As Gareth has said, Google Analytics is what you need and once you start tracking your website's performance you can use the info to update your website when you need to. It is easy to use and you can see easily how people are finding your site (including referrals from other sites, direct visits - as well as keywords from search results.

If you have not already put yourself on Google Places (Google Maps) this really helps you come up in local searches. And if you ever run a Google Adwords Campaign you can link this to both the Analytics and to your Google Places account (through ad extensions).

I just tried quick search - 'landscaping kent', you came up on page 9, 'grounds maintenance kent' you came up page 3. Google's SEO guide is also useful if you have not already looked at this.

Good luck!

Thanks all i will do all this tonight.

Jenny that is actually my old website on page 3 for `grounds maintenance kent`

Thanks for all the info.

Think i might need to work on seo

Steve I have an analytical tool with my microsoft web package that gives me all the info I need. How many hits are you getting a day since setting up? No matter how much work I do behind the scenes I am not getting more than 8-10 hits a day over a busy month. I am happy with it the way it is though.

I rank highly now with many relevant local Glasgow search terms. In my experience all I can say is that it does take a while and you need to be patient and persistent.

Oh, and landscapejuice is a very useful addition!

I have no idea how many hits im getting a day. Im new to all this seo etc etc stuff!

This is all german to me!

Im trying to copy and paste the tracking code onto my site.

Help!!

I cant seem to do it. Does the tracking code need to be placed on the source code page?
If so. Where?
And why wont it let me paste the code!?

who host's your site if it is vista print you can't, you have to buy the seo package they offer.

Hi Steve, im familiar with this if you need a hand,

but you do need access to the website files as the txt needs to be pasted into the html code,

If you look at the source code on my home page you will see the google analytics code approx ten lines down

Hi Anthony

Thanks for the offer. I think i need to get in touch with the host though as i cannot seem to add or paste anything into the source page. So i assume that means only they can do it??

The source page is purely 'for viewing only' you need direct access to the pages HTML code held on the server
