Bored?Rained off?Nothing more productive to do?Fancy giving some constructive feedback on my website?....www.simonlandgardenservices.co.ukIt was set up in January, though I will be looking to make various alterations to content etc as we move into winter, now that I have a better idea of the clients and work that I am looking for, but thought it would be interesting to hear anyone's feedback before I get to that point. As a reward for anyone who wants spend their time replying/critiquing, I will happily provide you a slice of eternal gratitude for your troubles.RegardsSimon

  • I think it works pretty well. It has a nice, friendly feel and you come across as someone who is professional and cares about the work you do.

I would move the biographical part of the About section that's currently on the home page to its own page, and leave a summary paragraph about yourself on the home page instead. I think most potential customers will want to know more about your services first, before reading your life story.

Some of the language used could do with some tidying up (the first few paragraphs under Garden Maintenance are a bit mangled). And your News section is obviously a work in progress!

Your Prices section doesn't contain any prices! If you don't want to publish your rates then maybe consider renaming this section.

Also consider putting up a couple of case studies which showcase the work you do for existing clients. New clients will respond well to real-life examples of your work – it gives them an idea of what they can expect.

Ok I'm no expert in websites but the first thing that struck me was too much reading. I got slightly bored half way through even though you sound like a thoroughly nice chap.

Make it a bit more to the point and less waffle. The website will hopefully speak for itself without the need for a life story of evidence.

    All the best with it.

Keith - thank you for your feedback. The overall feel of the website you describe is exactly what I want to achieve so thanks for that. You have also reinforced my desire for a more clear and specific homepage and ditching the 'prices' section. Thanks for the idea of putting in a couple of case studies, I'll certainly follow that up.

Red Robin - less is more....I hear you loud and clear!

    Cheers guys, much appreciated!
  • Hi Simon,

I liked the site, nice and easy to navigate your way around the site without getting lost or confused. I agree the site is warm and welcoming, but I think could do with some more images of maybe projects that can break up the text.

But all in all I enjoyed looking through your site and it has a clear message.

    Kind Regards

    And all the best

Thanks for the feedback Simon and your positive comments. I agree that it is a bit text heavy and some photos will break it up.

Thank you for taking the time to respond

  • Easy to navigate, which for non tech like me is brilliant, far too much 'reading' for my liking tho and not enough examples of your work.

  • Hi Simon,

I just had a quick look. I found the font a little hard to read. perhaps it my eyes or the font is a little thin? I also agree that it is a lot of reading but some people and potential customers what to know all about you and your services. It reminds me of how much I need to update mine.

  • ......and probably that I need to get one up and running!!!!

Had a quick look, obviously a lot about you Simon, should be more focussed on the potential client. I'm no expert, far from it but ...

Identify what a client needs, what solution you provide because of your features (skills) will give them this benefit.

A website, can be many things, if you want it about you, set up a blog as well in conjunction, if it is to gain business make it all about the client

  • Hi Simon,
I like your website! Your excellent training and experience is a great selling point, so do mention your rhs qualifications and years of experience briefly on the home page but put all the detailed stuff on a later page, bullet pointed as a C.V. would appear. Also, the white background is very bright, i would prefer a "dulled down" white background with thicker lettering, dont forget some of the website viewers will be older with poor eyesight. I would definately change working hours listed on a saturday mate, you will get people wanting a 6pm visit!
The gardening coaching is an excellent idea, something that could be expanded upon maybe to offer the service to local Primary schools and definately a U.S.P.
By the way, please have a look at my website, bordergardening.synthasite.com and feel free to pull it to bits if you feel the need!
