We recently applied online for a waste carriers licence, filled in the form, payed the £35 only to receive an email asking for a further £154.Is this a con as on applying there was no mention of further cost. The application simply stated the licence was £35.Also Im not sure if we need a licence as we are only removing green waste. Thanks for reading this and any possible advice gratefully accepted.Cheers,Paul

Interesting that the Environment Agency 'Graphics' has been removed on this site and a "non-discript" image put in it's place...

I wonder who instigated that change - the site owners or the EA enforcing it's image rights ?

But the change is still too little in my oppinion as it is not clear who you are dealing with, nor does it seem to comply with eCommerce trading laws.

Quite happy for site owner(s) to correct me on that issue....

Every so often a company is scrutinised on here for failing to meet the high standards we expect of fellow and related businesses.

This is a prime example, and through bringing it to light, by putting LJN discussions at the top of google rankings, and by communcating directly with the business owner, we can usually help them to see where they are going wrong and how their business model affects their reputation amongst potential clients and peers.

The Environment Agency has a perfectly good system for issuing waste carrier licenses and the service offered here by Renaissance Business Services is not something any of us appear to respect, need or care for.

This thread has been a sneak peak of what LJ is truly capable of.

for £35 why take a chance.Have since contacted Philip Cleary of RBS and received an immediate refund and at least he has moderated his site somewhat. So have learnt a lesson but hey that was March and I was a lot younger then!

Finally Id perhaps tend to agree that perhaps I might tend towards the computer illiterate as some replies suggested[thats you David Cox]but I come from a pre mobile age, when you could charge customers in giuneas? and bitches were not getting slapped.Again thanks to all and when I get a bit more practice with LJN comms I tell you the real horror story of getting our policies in place

Paul - Its okay - Im illiterate if you look at my spelling on many posts :) Glad you got your money back and good luck with all.

In Bradford Metro the council will not allow disposal of green waste at their  waste depots by  commercial contractors unless they have a waste carriers licence. Visit the Bradford area and witness the amount of green waste being fly tipped. Fortunately I have a waste recycling facility converting my waste into good compost. This has saved me a good deal of cash that I would have had to hand over to Bradmet.

Same in Leeds - A few lanes north of leeds are full of Field entrances with Huge piles of grass clippings and hedge arisings - Ive seen a few of my competitors dumping... quick 5 min nip out, tip it and let the farmer deal with it seems to be the way for many Gardeners in Leeds.

It would seem that as a result of a behind the scenes communications between 'interested' parties this website :

http://www.wastecarrierslicense.org.uk/

has changed its business model. It no longer charges a £35 fee and now simply collects your email details and sends you a copy of the (official ? ) application form for you to complete and send direct to the EA.

Also the official EA graphics has been removed and thus no longer infers a direct connection with an official government organisation.

I still believe there is room for more clarity but that is an issue between trading standards and the business owner.......

Although no connection, the EA has had problems with sites charging for fishing rod license applications recently.

''Online' is clearly not always what it seems .... We can all be fooled......So beware....

Im often on my own - Dont fancy confronting 2-3 people down a country lane! I just jot down the company details or Reg number - Have not reported anyone to be fair yet, but have let one Farmer know who was tipping in his yard entrance about a year ago.
