that is exactly how i read it

i thought id apply now as ill be out of the uk until april so i thought i get in quick as i see december coming and there will be a 3 month backlog and ill expect theyll be knicking everyone without one on 1st jan onwards

Yes correct Thanks David,

i have full UPPER tier waste Carrier license as i occasionally take odd bricks/concrete (clean rubble) to a registered transfer site..

i believe i can only as you say recycle 'green waste' and burn green hedge cuttings/trees produced on-site .  ( but NOT brought on site).   i think a license or exemption is required.   i wonder what this requires to gain a license to burn waste from another site.??

I take it you mean taking green waste from the site where it is produced to another site - IE a farm (as you allude to above) and burning it?

My understanding is that that would be illigal under any circumstances - I may be wrong... but If I remember correctly - for non agricultural waste such as yours, you would need to dispose of it at a registered site, or gain an exemption for the site your processing it at, and compost it.

In short, carrying it there is not the problem, its how you "process" it once there, and burning is a no-no - composting is a yes-with the correct licence.

thanks -  robin

A "D7" exemption will allow you to burn green waste at the site where the waste was produced.

Tim - I had a quick convo with the Farm where I dump waste when i cant process it on site or use it on My allotment as a fertilizer -

He has a licence from the EA permitting him to handle 10 tons of green waste per week from off site-- Unlimited amounts produced on site (It is a working farm).

Under no circumstances can he burn any waste brought on site at all - however he could apply for a seperate exepmtion EACH time he wants a fire (he says he has never had to... any logs get burnt on his fire and sold as firewood - everyhting else is shredded, composted in a windrow with cow manure and spread on the fields).

TO compost on any Site you need to either do less than 10 tons in total on site at a time, OR get the relevant permission, this INCLUDES proving their are no water courses within x meters of the site, that the composting is done on a hard surface with drainage to catch run off etc.

The main reason being the water flowing out of a compost heap can have such high nutrient values that it can actually kill any aquatic life if it gets into a stream or river, it can also kill plants (nitrogen burn) and cause all sorts of other problems (Read up on NVZ's if you have a few years free).

All this ties in with what I understand from my own waste carriers licence, so for for future reference;

1) you can carry waste from a to b as long as you have the correct licence.

2) The site (b) must be a registered waste handling site, registered and inspected by the EA

3) You can not burn waste at site b that was not in itself created their, without an event specific licence from the EA.

4) You can burn green waste on the site it is produced, with a licence from the EA for that specific event.

5)The site b) should compost the green waste, after this point its not waste, it is compost - a product... sell it use it or do what you want with it!

thank you very much dave:)
