van choice

Hi all, am sure you are all extremely busy but after some help out trying to choose which panel van to purchase as my current one probably won't pass the next mot! Was looking at a transit t350 but insurance quotes came in twice the price and more to my current insurance a peugeot expert van. Important thing is i wanted to be able to tow 2-3 tonne and needed the space compared to the current van, any ideas and thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi Bob,

Happy to help with this, if you need any help with anything van related then please feel free to give me a call, prior to working in finance I spent 20 years in the Commercial vehicle motor trade and still have a lot of contacts.

I also could give you some number for specialist van insurers who we already work with for other clients.

Feel free to call anytime on 07534 041 485

Consider a sprinter mate, I've got one and it's faultless! Does the mileage pulls anything and has bags of room!

We have an '11 plate sprinter and an 08 Transit.

The Transit is cheaper to run but the sprinter is vast inside and has a better designed cab.

For example, Mirror glass on a transit =£4. Mirror glass on a sprinter = £25 for the glass, £15 for the Merc only bulb and £15 for the lens if they all get smacked off on a hedge on a narrow lane! These are all priced using 3rd party bits.

The parts and servicing are also cheaper on the Transit but the sprinter returns around 28mpg vs 25mpgf for the Transit,l

  • Don't buy a renault traffic. I did... 2 clutches and 3 new slave cylinders within 3 years and it sort of still works.

    Blimey!

My Hiace is starting to show signs of needing it's first clutch now, at 166K miles. Most of them pretty hard miles as well.....
  • Love my Fiat Ducato

    Cheap to maintain
Cheap to buy 3K nearly 3 years ago on a 08 plate
Insurance is cheap but I am a coffin dodger
Only ever minor issues with it
    up to 35mpg
  • I agree with the other comments, for me I'd go for a Transit or a Merc Sprinter/VW Crafter.

We have recently supplied and financed both and are probably the best value for money in my opinion.

  • Thanks Colin will give you a buzz when i get a minute!

Two things i don't really get is how all the different models t350/t280etc work and can't find a site that explains it as i wanted with regards to payload and tow capability etc. What models do most work with?

Also why i currently have a peugeot expert van which costs about 360 to insure yet i get a quote for transit t350 for transit £960 cheapest that just seems rediciouls! Clean licence and no knocks for 11 years. I just can't justify that sort of cost in comparison.

A Peugeot Expert is in a smaller van class then the Transit.

The T-xxx is the gross weight of the vehicle. A T350 can be up to 3.5t in weight and still be legal byt a T280 can only be 2.8 tonnes.

Towing wise is different because it also depends on if the van is FWD or RWD.

  • Good to talk to you just now Bob, glad I could help
