Good work, do you follow a pattern or a design or just random?
I particularly enjoy the comments you get whilst out working. See if you can tick off my list playing general public bingo. Real Crackers Including;
Are you winning?
Thats some job your doing
I'd love to work outdoors (surprisingly this one's always on a sunny day)
CHILD What are you doing
PARENT Leave the man alone
My personal favourite was when painting a fence a man walked past and said 'Oh, painting the fence eh' What an insight
Looks fantastic, don't think you've anything to worry about
"....Do you know something..?" When asked this you know they are going to tell you how to do it, so I reply "yes I do.."
I do find though that the majority are just bored old guys just looking to pass a few minutes, its a bit of a shame that you can't make time to talk to them.
I was a dog handler for 14yrs, & everyone we stopped/detained/arrested was a dog expert, & I was invariably doing it wrong & their mums uncles granny was a dog handler, blah blah blah...even when we found the drugs etc..there was always an excuse, it was "a mates coat/jacket/trousers", I planted it/the dog planted it, the drugs were there because I was ugly/the dogs ugly..
Happy days !
Rob
Nice work! My favourite when turfing is 'green side up - chuckle, chuckle'!
Absolutely nothing to do with our work, but I sometimes filled in behind the bar at my local football club and Fosters required patience to pour on a warm day - there would always be one know-it-all or two who would sort of sneer and say "huh, if you tilt the glass a little, you might have a bit more luck!" Cheers mate, didn't know that after 20 odd years!
I personally like the "what mowers that? Oh I had a big proffesional mower once" and when cutting a hedge last week "is that that german stuff? I had one of those, expensive arnt they? What are they called?" me: "Sthil - bloody expensive, £1k plus for this hedge cutting set up" bloke "Oh I got mine for £20 at a car boot"
Yea likely story.
I just humour or ignor them - You always get daft comments when in public view, some people just need to say something.
Superb job
Tell them you work as a petrol pump attendant and this is the first time you have ever done anything like this so I will step back and let you show me the correct way to do the work.
They run a mile
Your work looks excellent Jez. I often get that particular comment and like you leave stones in places for later use. I was told a few summers ago that laying stones is not counted as proper masonry. Best stick to the day job then and let the experts do it Haha.
My Best one.....ever.
Taking MOT up a bridleway (50yrds) into a garden. Local farmer 'owns' said bridleway.......he's a busybody :->
I have two bags of MOT delivered, hi-abbed over the bridleway five bar gate and lined up next to each other, i.e one metre wide across the bridleway from the boundary, leaving a whole five bar gate's worth of access.
As expected, when I'm shovelling MOT into a barrow....up pulls the 4x4 of the farmer. He saunters across and says......
''A word of advice......
......don't block the bridleway''.
Well Mr Farmer...first things first....that's not one word, it's four. And secondly.......what on earth do you think all these sheets are for stretching 50 ******* yrds up an unmaintained bridleway??????
Actually, I never said that but it was at the forefront of my mind, completely tip of the tongue stuff.
The end? They're great clients of mine these days :->
Interaction can always be positive!
Cheers, Eugene
