  • haha this goes around every couple of years - possible but would never work, photosythetic efficiency alone would seee to it no decent yeilds occur! still, same plant family so doable, and could be fun.

  • This has been done and is available, but as for any idea that this sort of thing can help solve the world's food shortages... My guess is that the 15 years R&D was spent finding a variety of potato and a variety of tomato with similar growth rates. Interesting that apparently this product has been developed in New Zealand at the same time, so that might mean it's not worth either company patenting.

    Still, at £14.99 each for a liner you'll need to spend a lot if you want these on your allotment, and they're a lot more expensive than the usual ways of growing these crops, so my guess is that these will disappear once the novelty wears off.

    Tomatoes grafted onto Solanum species rootstocks are far more useful.
