Sliced my thumb this morning with...pruning shears whilst dead heading without gloves. Lots of blood and wouldn't stop coming. Will wear gloves in future.

I think he just means when the chute is clogged mid lawn cut.
Do NOT fully trust a BBC, they can and do fail. Different makes use different designs. Always be sure the blade has stopped before delving your hand in and if unsure then switch the engine off.

I once had a piece of strimmer cord fire up my nostril! felt like someone punched me in the face, my eyes were watering like mad and my nose was bleeding, i managed to dig it out,
it was a one in a million shot but i didn't use a strimmer for ages after that. when i bought the one i got now i also invested in a full face mask !!
