I have recently took on a self employed labourer.

I am trying to find out if I need to get employer liability insurance to cover him as he is doing work for me.

My business ia a landscaping & garden/grounds maintenance business.

Thanks

Phone your insurance supplier and inform them that you use sub-contracted labour and they will advise you of the new premium rate. Most PLEL policies have this in place if you use subbies and you have to inform them of the porportion of time they spend working for you

Yea that sounds like a good place to start! thanks mib!

On another tack, I take it he works for others as well.  If he works just for you, you will be required to put him on the 'cards' so that you pay the employer's NI.

yea he works at a bar 2 days a week. Have cheched this with my accountant and ist fine!
