Stihl Vac/Blower Problem

We have had 2 new Stihl vacs wrecked by dust getting into the engine over the past 18 months.  Never had the problem before, used their equipment for many years and carry out the usual maintenance.

The latest machines appear more powerful and the design of the air filter has changed(for the worse?).

Sthil replaced the first machine FOC, the second they rebuilt and we paid them£90.00.  They say they have not come across this before and blame us - anyone else had a similar problem?

    Colin,

Out of interest what models are you using ?

Wouldn't it be good if Stihl UK had joined LJN and participcated rather than send a rather rude response say it was of no interest to them to join such an orgainsation....

  • never had a problem   with   bg , sh or br ..............
  • Hi Colin had mine for two years from new , used it to suck every now and then and blow most of the time, changed the air filter and spark plug, will be booking it in for a full service before autum. BG 86 hand held nice tool.
  • An update re our ongoing problem with our vac/blower(s) SH86/C

We have recently been supplied with upgraded air filters for our machines, so it looks as though we aren't the only ones encountering the problem of dust getting through the old filters.  They are in two parts, consisting of the usual sponge/fibre , which is now thinner, making room for an additional filter. Part No 4241-140-4401

If you use yours as a vac regularly, I recommend that you use the new filters and check behind the air filter regularly to see if you have black deposits entering the engine.

  • Absolutely Gary - they have a lot to learn from Etesia and others in the field of customer relations.

I had a problem with mine once when i was using it to blow crumbly mortar out of a very old stone wall before i could repoint it. Cleaning the carb, new diaphragm and filter sorted it out.
