About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

Got some great news today. My company, Sonic Landscaping finally received the news that we have been accepted and are now safe Contractor Registered!

This is a great day for Sonic Landscaping. The Safe Contractor award demonstrates a companies ability to show that it is health and safety compliant. And once this award is achieved, makes the process of filling in tender questionairres all that much easier.

I hope now that the fact we have gained safe contractor, it will prove to potential clients that Sonic Landscaping is a responsible company, who is trustworthy, and more to the point, health and safety compliant! And i certaintly hope this award will help in bringing in extra work!

I would personally like to thank;

Brian @ M.I.B Services

And

Gary @ affinity landscapes

You have both provided absolute amazing advice and have made the process that whole much easier. Thank you both. If i ever get the pleasure to meeting either of you i will be sure to buy you a pint or two!!

The paper work at first was extremely daunting, but once you get your head round it, its actually quite straight forward. And there is some excellent posts on here offering advice and also you can download templates for health and safety policys etc.

This is exactly why Landscape Juice is so valuble. There are countless members on here who offer hours of advice. Everyone wants to help other out and that is a great help when you are trying to build a business.

And the fact there are template on business files on here eg. the customer charter, is a true wealth of knowledge given to you, for free!

In my opinion this site is more valuble that BALI APL and all other membership schemes and that is down to Phil. Well done Phil, youve built a great site here. This site has helped me gain new work, get advice on how to do my work better, get advice on what tools are best and has helped me learn about health and safety, method statements and more, which has helped me understand my business more and will help me when i want to go for some larger contracts where health and safety is very important.

Thanks all for reading this. And thanks to all who offered advice for me when i was trying to get the safe contractor award!!

Pleased for you Steve - really, really well done. Nice to hear positive news. It should allow you go further forward with your business.

Now make a song and dance about it - get the stickers, do a press release (I have a pro forma one if you need it) and get it sent out to local papers, commercial agents, hort press etc.

Also do a blog entry on LJN (or ask Phil for help). It gets picked up better that way.....

  • Thanks Gary.

They have actually provided me with a pro forma version of a press release i will use. Think i might do a blog post on here to get started! I am a blog virgin, will probably do that tonight!

And i will send to potential management companies and many more once i get a final copy together!

  • Just to bring up an old Post,

How long did it take you from start- finish? Just thinking about doing it as one of the local colleges have mentioned it would be a big help during a tendering process.

    Thanks

Mark it depends on how good your RAMS, H&S policy, and general record keeping is as these are heavily weighted in the process of accreditation along with a lot of other paper work. But i believe SC have revised the criteria for accreditation for different sized companies, effectively making it less red taped for small companies and self employed to go through the process. When i went through it, it was a one size fits all process which made for a lot of H&S policy writing. As with Steve, plenty help available from the members on here that have gone through SC.
You should expect at least 4 - 6 weeks if your needing to write up your policies from scratch though. Gid luck.
