I have just come in looked at my E-mails to find Simply Business as helped them self to £74.56, I can bet it will be in the small print some were that to help them self s to renewal fee unless I contact them and say other wise.
Car insurance recently did the same thing.
The insurance is not due for renewal till the 14th & I want to alter some parts ie tool insurance.
I always like to shop about for a deal this is their way to stop that.

Like most insurance policy's they renew automatically if you don't cancel it with 28 days notice, BUT you should have received a renewal notice with a quote for the coming years cover. I would call them and discuss

I'm sure if you call or email Simply Business they will sort this out to your satisfaction.

I had gladiator take £900 for renewal of the van insurance the other week - I phoned them and they refunded within a couple of days
I have had an e-mail today from Tradesman Insure telling me they will automatically renew my public liability because they know I am a busy person.
Not too busy to visit Simply Business today and find out I can get same cover for £25 cheaper .
What gets my goat is that this automatic renewal is probably hidden in the small print somewhere but if it had been mentioned to me I would have declined the option because like Lawn Lover I like to shop around.
The cynic in me also tells me insurance companies rely on customer apathy and keep their most competitive rates for chasing new business.

Thanks Phil. I hope I can shed some light on automatic renewal.
Yes, we do auto renew some of the insurance policies. A lot of our customers asked for it. It just happened too often that their insurance policy lapsed while they thought they were still on cover. A bad place to be if you are running your business.
So how does it work?
We contact some of our customers who are eligible for auto renewal a couple of times via email and mail before the insurance will expire. When we automatically renew your policy we want to make sure your policy premium will not diver too much. One of our colleagues will double check if your renewal is ok. During the process we always inform our customers what we have done and why. You can always opt out.
We don't auto renew expensive policies or policies where we can't match the price (for example, when the premium goes up too much, we contact you by phone and we don't auto renew).
So why didn't you receive our emails?
There are a couple of reasons. Some customers use a different email address to access their online account at Simply Business (this is the email address you have originally used to compare quotes on our website). If this address is different than the one you usually use, you might miss out on all our communication messages. Always update your details in your online account (http://www.simplybusiness.co.uk/account).
Another reason: some email providers such as Hotmail and Gmail see these emails as junk mails. Please double check. You can mark our messages as save so that they will not end up in your junk folder again.
Last but not least: we're sorry that you were unpleasantly surprised. We can get you out of the renewal at any time but I hope your renewal was in line with what you were expecting for a new year with Simply Business.
Our colleagues in our customer services team can help you. Let me know what you want and I'll make sure it gets sorted.

Time away from me working to do it.
Permalink Reply by GORDON on March 7, 2012 at 17:26 I detest this automatic renewal. It’s just a sales tactic and nothing less. The pretext that the insurance company is looking out for our interest is a guise. If they were really concerned to do the best for their customer then they would offer a clear opt in clause instead of from what I deduce from Jaspers response as we (SB) will make the decision for you followed with a muddled sort of opt out option.
The presumption from Jasper that an increase however small is expected and by that token (SB) is doing one a favour is a bit rich for me... Yes we know that insurance prices have a tendency to rise of late but I am not going to just accept it without first checking the market. .
I have just emailed Simply Business to advise them not to renew my insurance automatically, if they do then that will be very last time I have any dealings with them.
