Sign the petition to stop the landfill tax increase

Further to the recent topic concerning the huge increase in landfill tax announced this month by HMRC that will add dramatically to the cost of skips and waste, here is a link to a petition being organised to change the policy. I believe this is a poorly thought out bit of legislation that will have a dramatic impact on our industry and we need to rally behind skip companies and the construction industry in campaigning against it. Think about it like this, it cost around £60 to buy a reasonable tonne load of topsoil. To get rid of it will now cost more than double that. The mind boggles. Sign the petition an get behind this campaign. http://www.skiphiremagazine.co.uk/

increasing the price of waste disposal is obviously the best way to solve the issue of fly tipping

absolutely insane.  i feel like lynching an hmrc employee.

and the way things are going, i could probably get arrested for writing that.

what idiots are our taxes paying to come up with stuff like this?

Done. A job destroying, poorly thought out tax. I recurring theme with this "government".

More than 1500 signatures so far and apparently the issue had a mention in the Sun this week. Skip companies are threatening to block Trafalgar Square over the Jubilee weekend if the tax isn't frozen to allow for further consultations with industries effected by this. Things are heating up on this issue so here's praying for a pasty tax u-turn. More signatures are needed though.

looks like there has been some form of u-turn or clarification in the breaking news...heres hoping!

HMRC 'clarifies' guidance and blames skip companies for recent uproar over increases to land fill tax:

Well that's nice and clear then.Sorted.

So, I wonder who is to blame ?

- HMRC for not issuing clear guidance ? Or

- Skip companies not digesting guidance and knee jerking ?

Interesting to note that not all skip companies reacted .... So some did understand Guidance, our included (Collards - he of BTCC racing fame ;-) ....

I'm still not sure exactly what this "clarification" means though....
