Shrub ID on vaguest description

Anybody any clues as to possible identitification of this shrub which was described to me with little information...they didn't think to take a photo.

Overall 2m high and spread unobservable.
In flower at the moment and was coral coloured.
Light green leaf, which drew attention of observer to the plant, was shaped like a daisy flower, 3 evenly sized upper lobes smaller than 3 evenly sized lower lobes. Overall size of each leaf in the region of 50mm/2in.
Was spotted in Mount Stewart Gardens, (NT in NI)

  • Hibiscus?
  • I think we should all chip in and send them back to the NT garden, with a £2 disposable camera!

Surely there must be a contact for the gardens they could ask, and probably get through to the head gardener with a bit of begging?

  • Good idea

  • They had cameras...just didn't think.
They have just sent me a pic of shrivelled leaf which is surprisingly small for the alleged size of the shrub or tree

  • Anyone for Tropaeolum speciosum ? I will send the details to my interrogator. I would have expected the flower to draw more comment, though.

  • "Yes I think you may be right! Didnt think it was a climber 'cos of where it was."
  • Escalonia family? Always amazed how unobservant customers are. Always seem to say it had a daisy flower. Just had a customer telling me about this amazing 'GRASS' they had seen in a garden. Turned out it was a Gaura.
