  • get a dremel multi tool or similar and mark the tools yourself in your own unique way, be it adding serial numbers, phone numbers and postcodes or initials. be sure to add them in view and also out of view in case they are spotted and ground off if stolen, they will still be findable if police or repair shops ever help to find or recover the items.

get a scrap piece of metal or plastic and practice first, clamping it down is best as it can be tricky at first but you get better and had a steady hand comes with practice, don't forget to use safety glasses and gloves to protect your hands too
  • Thanks. I was also looking at these but not sure how well they would go around curves etc http://www.idmark.com/id-silver-mark/id-silver-mark.html?PHPSESSID=...

Steve, take a look at this thread. There's some useful info in it :

Great fan of SelectDNA or SmartWater.

Engraving is also a useful physical deterrent.

Strongly recommend you take time to record all your gear's serial numbers and ideally take a photo of each item for later reference.

  • Thank you Gary the select DNA looks interesting. Any idea of associated costs?

You can log the details of your tools here https://www.immobilise.com/view.php, the police use it when they recover stolen gear.
