Securing mower in van

What do you guys use to stop your mower moving backwards and forwards in your van? I currently use bungee straps but they tend to stretch and mower still moves around. Was thinking about using ratchet straps but could be a bit fiddly, so what do you people use?

  • Secure a wooden batten to the floor so that the rear roller / or wheels just touch this and the front wheels against the ply lining of the van, however be careful that the mower(s) doesn't rock back and forth too much or may end up cracking the ply and denting the side of the van.
  • It depends on mower but my side discharge goes width ways between my wheel arches and doesnt move as it touches one side and a wheel arch, harrier get bungee straped in and the Allen nation is left in gear then ratchet strapped down for added safety.
  • I do the batten thing too, mower in sideways in the van.

    Wooden blocks screwed to the floor, very simple and very effective.

    We sometimes take 3 mowers in van;

    1 in thru the side - secured by simple rachet straps
    2 in via rear doors - secured by simple rachet strap looped thru handles where they meet mower body and connected to D rings at rear on each side of van. We have a piece of 2 * 4 timber just longer than the width of the rear door opening so it sits behind the rear door pillars This effectively sits across the back of van just in front of the rear doors. The mowers can then be racheted against the 2*4 without them trying to force the rear doors open. When not in use, the 2*4 is simply removed and slotted into the van. Once removed, this gives a clear, smooth floor arear for other uses (did that make sense :-0)
