Second Job, second income???

Who on earth do you think you are, George Osbourne, Rupert Murdoch?

Next it'll be Sir John Pugh of Swansea.com

By the way, can we get a price for a vac and clean for next Friday?
I was talking to a small holder the other week about strimming some brambles - they make a decent enough living on 4 Acres, producing high value veg - beans, squash, Pumpkins, Maize etc, and they keep chickens to boot but dont sell the eggs. it may be a proposition Dan?
No, Wetherby West yorkshire I'm afraid. Id imagine the economics are similar. Look up silvioarable - its what they practise, soon theyl be producing apples and soft fruit on the same land without impacting annual crop yeilds. A well thought out idea.

I looked very briefly at a metal selling franchise a year or two back, selling steel cut to length for the pubic. When I looked at it I found to a large degree it was something we already did without paying someone a franchise fee.
Like in all things we could be slicker but find we never have much time.
My view is that if its seperate venture then it could work for you, problem being that its very different to keep seperate, two vans needed etc as I see you have you van all signwritten,
I've always been of the opinion that if your a Professional gardener that their should be enough work around, and taking it to extremes, when I see a van advertising Gardening, rubbish removal, decorating, window cleaning etc I often think well what is he?, nothing but a handiman.
I'm sure your very professional in what you do John, so it could work, just that it would be expensive to set up and keep seperate.
I made a lot of money some years ago from building, repairing computers, and thought about starting up a second business, I didnt bother due to different reasons, mainlyt hat you very often have to make multiple calls to peoples houses because their too stupid to own one. 95% of the work I did was user error.
Also did a bit of Health and Safety consultancy, thought about that too.
Have been thinking about this myself. Was considering buying an OmniVac as an add on to my gardening business. Only thing is I would be worried about damaging the guttering.

As well as the short term benefits (extra cash), I'm thinking of the long game and ways to try and add value to my business so that when I come to retire I can sell it as a going concern.
Is that like steel wool? Sorry - couldn't resist....

Reminds me of that american female comedian saying that her husband had bought her a ton of steel wool and expected her to knit a Volkswagen.

This is going to be a bleeding pain as I've now got to go back through a week of posts to check out the "Rowly's hair" comments.

It could take some time.

Are you suggesting I have a "syrup" Col?
