  My Transit received a heavy dose of Waxoyl everywhere under and around the wheel arches and behind the front wings when i bought it secondhand last year. It can be a filthy dirty, horrible job to apply however.

  It DOES certainly help, but above all, the most important thing is regular, careful washing and polishing to clean and seal the paint and remove any accumulated debris from under the wheel arches etc - especially that horribly corrosive, half composted sludge you get covered in down at the green waste site!

  I have seen vans two years newer than mine that are badly rotted around the rear arches - so mine is doing well so far...

  His products are less viscous than waxoyl, and get in to smaller crevices (which is where the rust actually starts), and go on to wet surfaces. Waxoyl needs to be applied to completely dry surfaces or it actually seals the moisture in, Bilthamber Dinitrol products seem to be better regarded if you want that sticky type of protection.

  You really need to get the van up on a ramp and blast everything off the underneath first, if you're planning to keep it long-term then it's worth doing properly the first time.

  We use protecto kote (not sure on spelling) on the inside of are vans. I posted a step by step guide on how to apply it. We have just power washed the inside of our van out and the base is like new and still totally waterproof, I can't seem to use the search facilty on the site as I'm using my phone.

  keep your van clean and wax oil the underside ext ,the bottom of transit doors seem too rust like mad so it may be worth using a good wax after every wash on the door bottoms

  Also found these guys when searching online www.rust.co.uk ordered some sprayable rust converter and Dinitrol 3125 cavity wax

  remembered i had a tin of waxoyl underseal buried in the garage so will use that for the surfaces of the sills/chassis and in the wheel arches
