Hi all, a question on base prep for resin bound driveways, I am quoting for an ederly couple who are after a quote for me doing their driveway in blockpaving and another company is supplying a quote for the resin bound.
The drive way at the moment consists of 600 x 900mm concrete slabs that the client laid about 20yrs ago on a minimal base,& a couple of inches of sharp sand,it has moved slightly and the area is chalk.
I have said that the whole lot has to come up and a proper 6" thick hardcore base put down which is the norm for me. The other company has said they can lift the odd slab here and there, make level and go straight over the top. They have also said the driveway would take up to 8 ton in weight.
I am no expert on resin bound driveways but I thought you needed a good firm base?
Alarm bells are a ringing!
Does any one offer courses in resin bound driveways or is any one willing to show me the ropes for a couple of days free labour as I think its an excellent finish.
Thanks in advance

You are right the slabs will have to come upand a mot base compacted, min 50mm concrete for paths,100mm concrete for driveways, otherwise the resin surfacing will crack after a number of months.
There arecompaniesout there that are now employing salesmen who are ripping off the unsuspecting customers to gain commission and giving the industry a bad name.
Let me have your email address and I will send you a spec sheet to pass onto the customer
