This subject has been around the block a few times infact I asked the very same question a few years ago.I guess the machinery available changes, new machinery/models to the market, existing machinery changing in quality as they do. sometimes for the better and transversely sometimes not.So which dedicated long reach hedge trimmers will you be buying or not buying next time.My experience so far is withShindawa.Nice light weight cutters, easy one hand adjustment of the head, easy start but the blade adjustment needs to be reset continually to achieve an effective cut on the likes of conifers. Several years old but still going.Stihl HL 95 ( purchased after the previous post)Gearbox bearing failed despite always replacing the grease. Valve stem snapped. Not a good experience and will not be going there again.Looking at Huskervarne, Echo anything really that is gaining the thumbs up plus avoiding anything with too many thumbs down.Who uses what in preference to the staple diat of Stihl assuming the purchase cost is not the governing factor.

  • I used an echo long reach about 8 years old and was still cutting and starting well, only used for approx 10 to 15 hours a month. The only reason it packed up was some fool forgot what 2 stroke was. I love echo tools they have never let me down as long as it was looked after.
  • It's boring to keep saying it, but buy what your local dealer wants to sell you?

His profit is in selling you something he doesn't have to repair under warranty, and makes you so happy you go back to him for the next 30 years!

Whatever brand seems perfect on internet forums, it's no use if it breaks (and every machine in pro-use will break one day), but no-one local can repair it fast.

  • Husqvarna very good stihl gear heads are crap
