Hello Everyone.
I have only been operating for a couple of weeks now and already I have been asked 3 separate times to quote for removing gravel from a path/border, putting in a new membrane and then putting the gravel back on top.
I am fairly comfortable with doing this but wondered if anyone else finds this is a regular job and I suspect I need to be washing the gravel before replacing, so, how do I wash gravel?
This website has been priceless for me as a new start up, thanks for all the advice

I have cleaned gravel paths by raking the worst into a pile and pressure washing the whole path - then pressure washing the pile of very dirty stone - then re-spreading. Worked perfectly fine by getting all the fines into the bed of the path. Result was a clean "almost" new look, and needed about 200kg (was for 35sqm drive) to top up.
I agree with paul - membranes are a bad idea.... I dislike them in planting plans as they are so so so terrible for the soil (removing the annual humus build up and kiling earth worms, and causing soil quality to fall very fast). They also create an "interface" layer and cause the soil to consolidate. They also have nil benefit for weed control as weeds simply root in the detrius that collects on top!
Yes anyone who installs membranes in shrub beds needs a lesson. Paths etc ok, but they still need to be kept clean.
The method I usually use to freshen up gravel or chip paths is to blow gently with the backpack whilst raking with my free hand. This gets a LOT of the muck out. Then you can spray with MMC Pro which does a good job of cleaning things up.
