Should the UK landscaping associations forget politics, competition and their own individual aims and get behind an event that should transcend all associations?

It's fair to assume that Perennial do not vet anyone in need according to their 'association' so we as an industry should all benefit from this event.

If there are any LJN members who also belong to the above associations who feel like questioning their respective chairpersons, I for one would love to hear their stance/response......

P.s. by 'Support' I mean at least advertise, Tweet etc the event. If they feel able to do more then even better...

Im not a member of any of the above be it has to be a no brainer surely ???????????

  • I am not a member of any of the above because they dont offer any decent reason for me to join.

I cant see the benefits of me being a member that i do not get from LJN> and i cant see how the bosses of these organisations would even think that their are gardeners out there less fortunate than their members.

Should we expect them to help? YES. Will they? NO. Why not? It doesnt benefit them.

  • a large organization like Bali would not take any notice or interest in the mowerthon as bali are only there to make profit, they would only show a bit of interest if there was someway of them making money from it.just my personal view of bali.

  • I suspect Gary is mischievously trying to spark debate here. After all the ritual ‘Trade Association battering’ debate hasn’t had an airing for a while.

So sod it, I’ll rise to the bait!

LJN has used its stance against the trade associations as a political pawn almost since its inception and has consistently alienated members of those organisations who joined LJN so that they don’t contribute to the network anymore. So what exactly are you expecting?

Irrespective of the greater cause, in life you reap what you sow. The fact is that the trade associations no longer know or care what LJN is doing because it has slagged them off so consistently. So to be fair they probably don’t even know that the Mowerthon is happening.

That aside. I think you might find that individual members of these organisations, like me, have contributed to Phil’s efforts on a personal level. Despite the private ding-dongs that I and others might have had with Phil we still recognise mighty endeavour and an amazing feat or endurance.

Oh, and I was there at the Creating Landscape show as well. Supporting Phil’s efforts. Were you? (Ok, I know you were Gary!)

The organisations that you talk about are just a group of people at the end of the day. Some of them will be supportive and others won't be interested.

     And that's up to them.

  • Spot on Dave and whilst it would be nice if the likes of APL and Bali would highlight the event, we can rest assured that as Dave stated, individual members have donated and I am sure that the big two trade associations support the charity in other ways.

I merely asked the question about their support of an event called "Mowerton" and the desire to rise funds for a Charity that supports out industry...and possibly any of us.

This event was the ideal opportunity to build bridges and see the industry work together and strikes at the core of the people who work in this industry and I think it shows the 'real colours' by helping all those in need, rather than those that let 'politics' stand in the way of achieving a fantastic goal. Oh..... they certainly know Mowerthon is happening, be sure of that. As for 'association bashing', I didn't want to go down that route so will let that lie and people can take their own view for this event....

The industry associations have the chance to rise above any politics, promote the an event and show they have the best of interests of the industry at heart.

I realise that individual Association members have supported Mowerthon and for that, my heart felt thanks, that is probably worth more than anything else.........:-)

Landscape Juice supported BALI chairman Richard Gardiner's charity cycle ride.

LJN has also extensively coved APL members' award successes. There has never been any kind of personal campaign against association members.
