Question for the younger gardener!

I'll keep it short and sweet,I know there has been a few posts about insurance in the past, I'm after an insurance company for van insurance, I'm 20 so my insurance is high, what companies are you guys with? I'm currently with Aviva.

Daniel, I can't directly recommend an insurance company partly because I am an old g*t and partly because we have a mini fleet policy via a broker, BUT strongly recommend you deal via a good insurance broker rather than on-line comparison sites. IMHO they do not give value for money except for bog standard situations.

Every time I had a particular insurance need (be it business or personal) they have come up with a cost effective solution utilising introductory NCD, shifting things around and recently saved me a shed load on my car (something I could not do on-line and believe me I tried)

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for your reply, can you recommend any good insurance brokers?

Try A-Plan - several branches in Hants/Surrey area.

Your age will be an issue to most companies I suspect with 21yrs being the next break point, then 25yrs. At one time I remember we could not get a 20 yrs insured (and it was only as a backup driver).

IF there any savings to be had, most Brokers are good at finding them and the more business you give them the more it helps (like PL and ELI etc)

    I'll give them a try,

It's frustrating as hell, 3 years licence, 2 years Ncb and have a car aswell, yet it's still over £2,500 a year for the van!

Also, is it compulsory to have trailer insurance if you use a trailer for business use?

    £1500 through Aviva for a W reg Combo B

went to a broker and got it for £550 which is still like 4x what the van is worth.

I'm 19 got 1 year driving experience although I've had my license for longer.

Avon associates who are local I'm not sure if they'll do wider areas or not.

  • nissan vanette 2.3D r reg was £350 went to £550 a year ago.. im 40 yrs old 10 yrs n.c.b

seems they are cashing in on commercial use. :(

i want this van to be used as had new mot welding and is ideal for dirty landscape jobs or mowers / without trailer.......... welded at £300 last time and sitting here with pvt plate all running reliable..

  • When your 21 have a look at the nfu, they helped me out. And it's good if your in a rural location as usually they have a local office.
