They could kill these phone charge scams dead by delaying the payment to the scammer until approval from the bill payer has been obtained for anything over say a £1 charge.

As we live in the middle of nowhere, we often get a card left by the delivery chaps, as there is noone to leave parcels with, I would have fallen for this at this time of year.

I always look up phone numbers if I have any suspicions. Never ever call 090. Use www.saynoto0870.com often.

The problem is it is so plausible this time of the year. Everyone is aware of the many 'email' scams, but a card thru the door is more believable. We have 1 or 2 'missed' deliveries a week at the yard, it would be easy for one of the guys to just assume.....
