Hi, i've had a wee look through this forum and thought i'd recommend a couple of sites to people who are looking to design their own website. I am not affiliated or making any commission on these recommendations.
It started off with being quoted a stupid £2,400 for a 10 page website from my local web designer. As i was starting back up ,my budget was very limited, so after a lot of swearing i hit google.
I soon found 123reg which is where i bought my domain name from for around £6 for 2 years.
I then found basekit, an online web editor/ website builder which also has 'free hosting'. It works on a drag and click method where you are able to put text or pictures anywhere on the page, plus have carousel photo galleries etc... There are loads of templates to pick from as well which means you don't have to work from scratch..The beauty of this site is you have a free 14 day trial to play with the editor and see if it is to your liking, then if you are happy, you can upgrade to the £6/month package. this includes hosting too, so no extra costs. you are also able to edit the site whenever you want instead of having to pay a designer silly money. http://www.basekit.com/
My site using basekit- http://www.wkla.co.uk/
The second site i would like to introduce is an analytical tool, basically it is a visitor tool which allows you to see where your visitors are from, ie; city and country, world wide. It also tells you how they have come to your site, be it via a google search, if so what search term they used (great for keywords), or from a link posted on other websites. You will also see the time they visited, the duration of the visit , which pages they viewed, and how many times they have viewed your site. This is great if you are paying to advertise on certain sites.
This is also completely free and very easy to use.http://www.footprintlive.com/
I hope this has been helpfull.
