Moving business and starting again - any tips?

Due to personal circumstances I have recently packed up my general garden services business in Leeds and relocated permanently to the Wirral. A whole new area in which to operate.

I have sorted all of the basics out over the course of the last month - van livery changed, website updated, new phone numbers, new business cards, flyers, bank accounts etc. etc. but now is the time to start serious work again and get back to full-time operation.

When I first started up in Leeds the majority of my early work (until website SEO and word of mouth took over) came from long hours pounding the streets door-to-door flyering. Whilst I am not totally adverse to doing this again, as a previously established and somewhat experienced operator, my motivation to go back to long days flyering is not very high.

I was wondering if other people had been in the same position of having to pack up a successful operation and start again somewhere completely new, and whether they had any useful tips and tricks as a bit of a fast-track to conquering a new market?

  • Perhaps old news, but some options;

    buying a round - reverse of what you've done,

    Break fliering up into managheable chunks - Say 250 a day - I found this reduces the soul destroy factor.

    Local shop windows,

    Contact other businesses esp landscapers and see if they pass on work - landscapers have been a good source of leads for me in the early days.

    I suppose a good method would be to use all the above and website SEO to build the business, and focuse 2-3 weeks on solid marketing - Try to get all your paper advertising to drive to the website as well.

    All the best in the new area.

  • If affordable why not pay a leaflet distribution company to do your flyers?

    I'm sort of in the same boat atm, but I only moved 30 miles up the road, so still do some work where I used to Live. I'm currently delivering leaflets myself when I'm not at work in the day. Iv done about 2k so far and have had 6 replies before the first week was out.
  • you can try on your door step booklet if they have one in that area any local mags and papers
    i presume you sold your round in Leeds
