Mike, my experience is that once the moss is nearly killed with chemical solutions, rotary brushes do work well - I found a Madvac or Green machine (on hire) is good. Chemical routes need a period of post application dryness to work which is hard to find. Jet washing tarmac to remove moss does not work well.
p.s Madvac round here is about £125 a day to hire (and can also be used for gutters/kerbs at business parks etc). Hiring 's a good solution for rarely used gear and find out if ides work before committing capital.
Hi Gary, thanks. I'd never thought about hiring as its something i rarely do, but i think if i can find a suitable machine to hire then this is the way forwards. Could spend a solid week on it in the winter and see how it goes.
Cheers, mike.
Hire or buy a pressure washer?? - cleans the surfaces / paving, removes the moss, easily and effectively.
Ive found in the past that varying the pressure can work on tarmac, altho granted if its old then probably not the way forward - but then neither is any abrasive manual technique i would think.
We use both, but sub contract the road sweeper work out at business parks. I woud never consider jet washing Tarmac to remove moss, even with a FSC attachment unless it's closed pore or rolled 3mm Tarmac.
Anything 'old' or porus will degrade with subsequent issues.
We reserve jet washing to truly hard surfaces, but not before checking it out first by testing. Seen pavers destabilised, surface of slabs dis-coloured or blasted away......expensive business to rectify...:-(
