We are in the market to replace a couple of gear damaged cutters (kawasaki kht600s and tanaka tht 210s) that most likely occurred as a result of boys shocking off walls and kerbs - don't get me started on that!So I came across this brand that offer a 5 year commercial warranty - that must stand for something when it comes to the built quality and dependability of these machines. Has anyone any experience with them? Our local shops stock Tanaka and Stihl(previously Kawasaki but struggling to get parts for them these days) but I am sick of machine issues so have decided to look into cutters with heavy duty gearboxes to eliminate this problem (plus tip guards as standard).Dealer after-care is important but a 5 year commercial warranty is quite an impressive offering. What do you think? There is obviously the issue of disciplinary procedures for staff if they keep destroying machines - feel free to deviate into this area too! Could be interesting.

The brush cutter self sharpening scissor head looks very favourable

I will be asking my dealer if they have considered stocking it ! A blade that does not throw the debris is very appealing after a mishap with a corded head through gravel into a patio door resulting in my first ever claim on my liability insurance
Neil Petrie thanks for this lead I'm very keen to follow this lead up

  • Can't say anything on the product but dmmp are brilliant just can't fault their customer service. Have been very impressed with them
  • Ok, call me ignorant or stupid, but following links from this I find several machines feature 'reverse start', both hedgetrimmers and brushcutters.
I haven't a baldy notion what this means....can anyone enlighten me?

  • Cobra Power tools are a brand badge put onto Mauyama and are availble quite widely, I considered one ealrier this year as a local dealer sells them - They seem fine, quite light, and otherwise pretty standard, were same price as a Makita So I went for the known brand to me.

  • Sorry, just noticed typo in title. It should be Maruyama.

David, I can't see any connection with Maruyama and Cobra Power Tools at all; but maybe Mauyama!

They made a 'big' showing at SALTEX last year, especially the innovative strimmer head (would love to see that as a 'Stihl' attachment ;-)....

Controls/cables/choke/air filter/switches etc were not as 'streamlined' as found on Stihl's etc but was reflected by the price difference.

  • It's the 5 year warranty that gets me! They surely wouldn't possibly offer this without being extremely confident in their products.
  • According to what I have read the 5 year warranty is only applicable in the US and Canada.

Furthermore the warranty appears to be linked to a dealer provided maintenance programme.. Which I would deduce means spending £X on an annual service irrespective if the machine requires it or the fact that most of the maintenance is routinely carried out by many of us throughout the year.
I would speculate the total spend required for a 5 years dealer maintenance programme would not make the purchase so attractive.
  • They are identical with everything except the label and the spark plug cover.
