We are just about to take delivery of a new (to us) 4x4, a 06 Jeep Commander. Its the V8 5.7l Hemi engined spec. Obviously not going to be great on mpg as with all 4x4's so looking at getting it converted to lpg. Anybody done it / also thinking of going down this route ?

  • Looked at having this done when we were running a petrol van Brian, couple of years ago now. Cost was in the region of £7 to £800. I'd just advise checking at what temperature the LPG will kick in. We work in a very tight geographical area and on occasions go from one house to next door to two doors up etc.The engine has to reach a certain temperature before it switches over to LPG.

The chap we were dealing with said he could lower the cut in temp, but in the end we went to a diesel van. The only other thing I can think of is there is no part filling the LPG tank, it's all or nothing!

  • Was a no brainer for me, bought LPG van after calculating that it would pay for itself in a couple of years. Not had any power or performance issues and I do a lot of miles with it fully loaded.
I'm surprised more people in UK don't use LPG. Price varies quite a bit depending on quality of the kit used and as far as I know the only guys that specialise in conversions near you are Stenhouse motors on slateford road.

Price wise, shell selling it for 72.9p a litre around edinburgh (Dreghorn, crewe toll, musselburgh, lizzie brice, the braids). I'm selling it at 70.8 in millerhill, there is a garage in cowdenbeath that is about 78p a litre, no idea what the prices are like further out of town
