Advice needed please
I am looking at a contract with our local parish council and it includes emptying the litter bins.My question is, are there any legal aspects around emptying said bins and transporting to their central collection point. I have a "waste carriers licence" but would like some advice from you guys as I dont want to take on something which Iam not legally allowed to do.
Many thanks, Glyn

Hi Glyn
I had a contract with a town council and I also looked into the possibility of taking the waste from the litter bins to the local waste recycling centre (dump) and I was told it is forbidden to take trade waste to a public facility.
In the end I arranged for a large Biffa skip to be located on council property (roughly mid-way between all waste bins). This did meet with disapproval from local residence and we did have to re-locate it once.
It worked well for us.

Yes I had same trouble legally if said Parish Council was to employ you they are allowed to dispose of it at the dump as Phil mentioned when it is through you as a thrid party business it becomes trade waste. You might be able to ask the parish council to enquire if there local council would collect waste from one location once a fortnight with the domestic waste which they are more likely to do if coming from the parish or town council. Or you may be able to find a local waste transfer site and arrange something with them on an account, some of these charge you a minimum fee which you will need to structure into the contract. Or the third option is like Phil mentions and you maybe able to site it near to a village hall or community building and share the cost.
