This has been covered before, the following threads have pretty comprehensive responses to your question;

This is my response in 2010, which I still stand by;

"Further to previous discussions - Our quarterly membership just ended - and they were most shocked, and then took another £47 dd before suspending our account ---
Simple output for us was that they were asking for £10-£14 per lead for what are often clearly 30-50 jobs, and again of those we tried 8 out of the 9 were people looking for a garden tidy for £50 or a patio for under £200 - total time wasters living in cloud-cuckoo land, beliving the nonsense in the adds about cheap labour and jobs.
To quote one customer "its supposed to be 40% cheaper isn't it?" They simply demanded 40% off what they thought maint work was worth, which was already low.
Not worth it at all given the pricing structure and nature of our trade."

Hello, Rated people didn't work for me. They gave me a free trial membership but it didn't generate any business just two leads that didn't go anywhere, Thats not to say it works in other places.

Tried and they failed me badly!
An auwful and FLAUD way of generating business.

As the above says some jobs i had to pay £10 for and it was a small small job.
And you also get lots of people wanting a £100 job done for £5!

Avoid!

I've tried getagardener for a month. There is another thread on here about that site. I have gotten maybe 10 leads, and all but one of them have gone nowhere. I think they advertise as getting a gardener for 35% less , and al the recent leads have been from the poorer parts of my area.

I started with Getagardener, which i have found works for me, to a point. Ive had maybe 10 leads and have completed two small size jobs outa it which pocketed me £400 Ive quoted up for 3 more larger landscape jobs, which if i get them should keep me busy to mid spring. Couple have been timewasters, but if im honest just by looking att the lead I feel i can tell who is and isnt. For example '' back garden has weeds, i dont want weeds in my garden looking to have back garden paved approx size is 150m2 im on a tight budget'' i spent half a day quoting this job, when i gave a price i littery got laughed at...

I would say it can work if your looking for extra work but dont expect to get a email sunday night and have work for monday morning...

I havnt use rated peolple for the last 18months, as i was more than busy enough with self generated work

In the past i used them, and if you were choosy about jobs it could be ok!, i had some good jobs, several are still regulars of mine, but also some real timewasters and pathetically small jobs. On the whole id say the low value work outways the better jobs, but it can be of use if you are cautious but, then again i am in south london where i guess the chances of a higher value job are increased, maybe!
