laying paving against a fence

i am going to lay paving against a fence 11m2 in a the corner of the garden. 

i need help in deciding what edging to use for the sandstone flags. or not use edging

1.  Is the edge for decoration or does it have a load purpose?

2.  What is the fence made from? (I.e timber , concrete gravel boards)

no load purpose just for decoration and its a timber fence
