Lawn mower opinions and options!

Hi Everyone,

firstly sorry if this has been covered! just looking for advice for my "circumstances".

I currently run a Viking MB 655 G which i use all day every day. I also have a honda for smaller jobs. I mainly do commercial work and i am a good fan of Viking. However I'm looking for another mower to use as a spare of alternate with the viking.

It needs to be robust, able to cut in the wet whilst collecting. I haven't used a roller mower or a mulcher before. Is there anything good which is bigger than a 21inch cutting deck that someone can recommend?

A ride on isn't an option either!

Thanks!

  • Toro turf master at 30" is a nice machine!! they are also releasing a 61cm model which will definitely worth a look!!

bumped a thread up for you about the turf master!!
  • Interesting post, see my thread in the hub about roller mowers? Our Viking experiences are pretty much worlds apart, and it seems that Viking are having a re-think about their roller mowers.....

Bigger than 21" and you are in to weighing up the benefits of a ride-on, or going for something like the Toros. I'd love to spend £800 on the 30" Toro for a couple of jobs, but van space is an issue. I think it's a machine worth looking at, but I've been bitten financially by trying the Viking "commercial" roller mower, and I'm not going to be the bloke who trials the domestic Toro 30" mowers in commercial use!

  • Toro were at Headingley last Tuesday and told me the 30" they had on show was the new comemrcial version

Tom - don't have or use a ride on only my viking, I use it on its top speed

Paul - my viking is a 4 wheeled haven't used a roller are the viking ones bad? would you recommend the toro? I need a back up/ second mower which would. E handy if it was bigger. The Viking I use is a domestic mower, my last one lasted 4 years.
  • I only use the toro for about 10 hours a fortnight but has halved my cutting time on one site and saves me waste costs for 18 bulk bags of grass!! its to big for somethings though which is where i would like a 60cm toro for the large developments that aren't to big i.e. 5/6 hours cutting and also because access wouldn't be to restricted!!

  • Now im reggretting not walking 500 yards from my house to go!

  • Surely 5/6hrs cutting warrants a bigger machine? I'd go stir crazy cutting for anything more than 2-3 at a push.

James do you have a link to the toro you use which is for sale? My Viking takes about 2/3 hours on some big jobs which is why I ideally want to get a bigger machine
  • most is 4 hours on one site. A ride on would only get 2/3 hours a fortnight due to size and it would take me longer to get the rest done with the smaller machine!!

seems cheapest, I would always go to my local dealer as then they get me back up and running! got to know where your loyalties lie!

  • Dan this might be of interest
