The jet stream has once again moved, it is now blowing over France.
Which means that until it moves back northwards we are in for a
good soaking, especially in the South West. The two wet summers we had
four and three years ago were due to this happening.

Permalink Reply by Mark on April 23, 2012 at 22:44 I dont know about you guys but these intense showers are really getting me down now, I know the south east needs the rain but when you live and work in the north west its a drag !!!

Yeah, waterproofs are really earning their keep at the moment.
I've obtained a 3m x 6m pop up tent to allow me to point a large patio area but I'm not going to be able to finish the paths at the side of the house and can't present an invoice until it's all finished. I've lost a lot of days so also very fed up with the weather.
I know I should plan for it but, frankly, I forget what rain was like it has been so long since we had any. And 'Yes' Chris Harrop, I know you have a marvelous 'brush in pointing' product! ;-)

That's a good idea, Gary RK, and I will adopt it in the future. This client has paid some of the bill as gesture so it's not as scary as it could be.
Peter Moon, I noticed the Ash was in leaf before Oak on Friday and thought exactly the same thing. I really hope it's not true.
i do similar on larger jobs. i find most clients are very uinderstanding as well, and i find most are very approachgable if you explain that you will need to pop back when the weather is better in order to finish the job properly. I always suggest a retention well over what will cover it, and most are more than happy to do it.

Slightly off topic but relevant to last post : John (Cooke), try this approach: When we perform anything other than a small job, we structure it such that we either have staged payments or break the job into smaller 'invoice-able' tasks.
Then if any delays (weather, materials, sickness ) interrupt you can at least invoice to that stage.
Also a way of dealing with retentions/call backs ..ie a small issue can not then hold up payment of the major sum.
Otherwise if you have suppliers you must pay, it does not hit your cashflow as hard while waiting on client funds..and as we know cashflow is the life blood of any business.

We got snow here yesterday, well not here where I am of course, in Niagara Falls and more so on the States side in Buffalo...Remember it's April and the saying goes like this
" April showers bring May flowers " :))))
