Free flowing traffic meant I was there before opening, but was surprised at how quiet it was. Minimal queues to get into the car park and into Exhibition.
A few absences (no Toro, Hayter, Ransomes, Kubota - unless I missed them), some downgraded (ie smaller) stands (ie Stihl), but in reality everyone who mattered (to me anyway) was there.
It meant I got to see the couple of dealers/suppliers I had to see and was able to discuss what was necessary before I had expected it to get busy. However, a couple of suppliers commented that the first day is normally the busiest and were concerned at the turnout.
Still a lot of good kit to see, a few new products from various sources.
Met up with a few people and we all managed a moan about business etc....
Then the heaviest downpour I had seen for sometime bought to Saltex/the Racesource to halt for some 20-30mins at Lunchtime and left the grounds waterlogged.
So for me it was in and out in a few hours, business done, updated information to hand and back to the Yard.
Appreciate not a really in depth review, but I do enjoy Saltex as a chance to see products in the flesh. Will be interesting what a couple of my guys make of it when they go.
looks like next year for me
I'm currently in Bagshot having spent yesterday evening with Andy and Cat Fereday in Coulsdon.
I had a very long day yesterday driving up from my home to Dunkirk - about 600 miles and then another 78 to Coulsdon (and I managed to get lost using Google maps on the iPhone:)
I spent from 10.00am until 5.30pm at Saltex with 3 hours spent with Hale Events discussing our proposed Creating Landscapes trade exhibition (more on that shortly).
I spoke with several stand owners and the feedback was mixed with some happy and others not so. With 2,700 visitors attending yesterday, one stand owner told me that they don't see a long term future with Saltex in its current format.
I will publish attendance figures tomorrow but there is talk it was nearer 4,000 but I cannot confirm this.
My view is that the aisles looked empty.
More tomorrow.
