  • ???????? dont understand - whats the facts? i see as they will not want to pay out for anything ! - what is the point in having it as they will worm there way out and boy on the phone when u buy it says anything when u take it out to get them a sale.

one earlier today had 60 pages on my internet - adobe reader file !!! did i read it (2hrs) No !

so tell us more- and WHO HAS CLAIMED SUCCESSFULLY IN THE LAST 2 YEARS PLEASE ? ANYONE ? TO PROVE MY POINT !
  • Totally agree pro gard adamant it will not happen again, very cautious with strimming. Are there accidental cover as well as liability for self employed?
  • are accidents forseen ? ? why do we have 'insurance' they are fobing you off ! but £100 excess , same as paying for a standard 4x3 new double glazed window anyhow and saves a claim/excess going up and next years policy.
only pateo door / decent worth claiming for..............

    i always stop/slow strimmer if people / pets/ cars/ windows nearby as soon as i notice..................:/

never hit any window or car/person with a stone chip so far ! - 7 yrs + as a teenager strimming at home.
  • I broke one the other week...thick wet grass after the warm wet spell, that and the grass had been fed a few weeks earlier too !!! I was in a bit of a rush . First one for me, patio door (had to choose the largest !).

My excess is 250 and the glass was 265 so not worth doing the maths, luckily my customer was a good sort and claimed on here house contents insurance and I paid her excess of 50 quid plus chucked in a few hours free gardening as a thankyou.

I'm awear of the dangers but accidents happen, I have sympathy for anyone involved in an incident like this because it is a worry when your are on the recieving end.

Take as much care as you can..but accidents happen, hopefully very rarely.

    Cheers
    Mark
  • As I said in another thread, I've broke 7 in 20 years, only ever paid for 1, customer claimed every time, says something about how much my customers like me , well thats my story anyway
  • just hit my second window this months not doing good, luckily i have one payed £100.00 per french windows so far, any ideas on reducing this problems as i use a stihl fs 300 strimmer, i was considering using a small one for enclosed spaces near windows any ideas ?

  • Well a Shogun rear window is £180, patio windows go for between £80 and £100....gravel round conservatories , tiny bits of dog bone on the lawn, excess of £200 which mean I had to pay, I hate them all!

The dog bone fires off the mower at 200mph so you don't have much of a chance, the strimmer was only a little £55 19cc from B&Q I use for edging.

Lets be careful out there. Have a nice weekend.

  • Strim higher in sensitive areas, lower the revs, be careful with direction, don't strim if there is someone sitting in a car or in the room behind a window, just generally be extremely careful! It's all about reducing the chance of that line lifting small stones in the first place.

I've not hit a window yet though an employee did with the mower and didn't even notice!

  • The worst for this is Gravel in borders near lawns and as edging - finds its way into the lawn, and gets ejected at 200mph - In my case into my shin cutting through my trousers...

As for protecting windows - I use a Flamegun to keep the gravel clear on one property where they insist on having 20mm gravel round the conservatory - And shears to finish it off with hand shears.

  • when i was working with an employee we hand a gang of 5 strimming, whe had just lined up out side our pickup and the supervisor was in in the drivers seat doing paperwork, we started strimming in a long line the the chap who was far right about 120ft , hit somethink small couldnt tell what it was, it shot left across the rest of us strimming, went through the drivers window out the passengers window which was luckily open and into to scrub left of us, scary thing was if the object would of hit any of us directly in the head at the pace it was going we would of been dead or seriously brain damaged !!
