The advice would differ depending upon what type of dirt you need to remove and also what type of Indian stone it is
1. Is it just a general clean
2. Is it oil
3. Mortar
4. Algae
There are lots of different answers

In all honesty Chris the best method for a general clean of sandstone is a jet wash. The only problem is that if its done too frequently, a jet wash can erode the surface of stone.
I would say jet wash a couple of times a year maximum but don't use the really fine setting and also don't hold it too close to the stones surface.
Lithofin also do some really good cleaning products for cleaning algae and for general cleans. Their two best products for this would be Algex and outdoor cleaner
Also a really good way to clean sandstone paving is just with hot soapy water and a stiff brush
Hope this helps

I've had good success using trigene & a long handled(same as a sweeping brush length) scrubbing brush.
Trigene & similar stuff is a cleanig & disinfectant agent for kennels, i have some as i was a dog handler for 14yrs until retirement last year, so tried it on my slabs & decking & it worked well. Also used it on the fire escape steps(concrete) at a buisness i do the grounds for, & it removed & kept off the algie.
