Hi Folks,

I have recently joined Landscape Juice, and thought I would say hello. My background is slightly different to most on here I would think, I joined my dads landscaping firm after leaving school (am 33 now!)and have been at the front end of the sales and marketing of several well established Paving and Landscaping Companies.

Now just to be clear, am not saying am an expert at all marketing, for example I wouldn't like to market a bank or a holiday company. But when it comes to this business, i have a wealth of experience in sales, telesales, distrubution marketing as well as my primary day job of internet and social media marketing.

I have 3 different landscaping business's in different sectors as well as being a partner in http://www.LandscaperRank.com which is an SEO agency who works only with Landscapers and Garden Services.

Whatever you need to know whether it be how much it should cost to print and deliver 10k leaflets or how much is 5k likes on facebook. Fire your questions in and I will try to answer as best I can.

Thanks and great to be here.

  • Hi John.

I haven't been here long either, but welcome. I just accepted your friend request.

Have you just started landscaper rank within the last couple of days?

We seem to work in similar markets. As you may know from my posts, I am a marketing and business development consultant who specialises in marketing service based businesses? I'm actually here doing some research for a book I'm writing on the subject.

I'm sure we will get involved in some interesting debates on here. Your methods seem a little different to the ones I would usually recommend.

I thought I was a fairly rare creature being qualified as a marketing consultant, and also as an experienced and qualified landscaper and Arb. In fact, I actually ran my landscaping business in the day, whilst studying for my Chartered Institute of Marketing exams at University in the evenings. That was a good few years ago now though. Did you take a similar route?

Anyway, I look forward to getting involved in some interesting discussions.

  • Hi Stuart,

I guess my methods will be hugely different to the ones you have studied. My methods are grown from what works day to day in my business's and how you can leverage platforms to increase customers and the bottom line.

I would be intrigued to know how you would market a modern day landscaping company as from an educated point of view. What methods you would use that would separate you from the hundreds of competitors in each town and how you would strive to stand out. I have my methods which are tried and tested through money lost, wasted and eventually made and they work for us.

Landscaper Rank is brand new and by the signals from the social media platforms and the emails we have recieved seems to be well recieved.

  • Yes, I did suspect that you were new to this. I noticed that the sites you seemed to have ranked on Landscaper rank were your own, and that landscaper rank and your Facebook account are both brand new. You have an exciting time ahead.

I think you will find that once you start to work for clients there is a world of difference between what you need to know to be able to market your own business, and what you need to know to be able to advise clients about their businesses.

Anyway, best of luck with it. I look forward to reading your thoughts and opinions.

  • Do you guys need your own forum area? :-)

  • I think what I said was Landscaper Rank was new, which was never a secret, I held a conversation this morning with Phillip from here explaining that it was new and asked him how he thought it would be received.

Me on the other hand I am not new to any of it,I have been working online for a long time now and have a rather large portfolio of successful campaigns like the one you pointed out that ranks No 1.

Additionally I have personally advised many clients on where there marketing budget should be spent.

I've attached a photo of an award I was presented with by Easigrass.com for outstanding contribution to their brand. The job in hand was to implement their social media campaigns which now has over 45,000 followers and produces a huge amount of leads. Easigrass are 10 million pound a year company by the way.

So no Iam not new to it all, I show people how to get the leads they need from strategy's that work, nothing more, nothing less.

I may not hold a degree, but you can't get a degree for being an successful online marketer or else I would have one I am sure.

I have no wish to make this in to qualification vs real life success debate. I am happy to just wait and see.

    Goodnight

    John
