When I started to read the e-mail below, ummm a nice project to finish off the year or maybe kick off next year? Then the cynicism sunk in! Big garden but only a two line e-mail? Not the normal type of enquiry for a larger project. 0703 isn't that a premium number?! The temporary rush of adrenaline fades away...

Anyone else get these e-mails?

"Hi

I have just bought a house with 1.5 acre garden which is in need or sorting out and was wondering if you could give me a quote on landscaping it.

Hi, I got the same message about 2 months ago, think it was supposedly from a guy called "Jason", I googled the number as it seemed odd, and found that others had paid odd amounts on their phone bills after calling it back, interestingly never more than a couple of pounds, but I guess if enough people are caught then it all mounts up. I deleted the message so don't have any more details now. Is there somewhere we could report the number I wonder?
Thanks for this Andy. I will forward this to my contact who heads up the Marshalls register to let him know. Thanks, Gareth
There is no point in sending a sarcastic reply - it's not communicative people that receive them, an all you'll do is confirm that they have a correct email address to add to their spam list.
Yes I got this too a couple of months ago though can't remember the name on the email now. Was bit suspicious (I always am bit wary if people don't give their address or more details in an email enquiry) so Googled the number - and sure enough it came up as a premium rate phone number. You know what they say - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is...
I got caught too so they're obviously covering the whole country. Tried to call back and phone rang but only once went to voice mail so don't know yet how much it's cost me. After 4 or 5 attempts I googled the name and then discovered it was a scam. Should have posted a warning to you all - sorry!
I got a similar mail back in August . I was away on holiday and called the number to explain . I was very suspicious at the time and kept the call to a few seconds. I have just looked back at my mobile bill to find it cost me 55p .
Same e- mail but a slightly different number 0703 1961594.
My husband works in IT security and says that these premium number scams are so easy to set up, that they are very common.
Hope this helps others not to get caught out.
Have not received this and never call 070 numbers, thanks LJN's

Paul

Did the email address in the email correspond with the sender's email address or did they differ?

This arrived last week - seemed strange so I wasn't too surprised when my reply came to nothing. The good news? My website is obviously being seen by someone!
